I. System Setup for Windows 95
Windows 95 needs to be setup in the correct order
to function properly. If Dial-up Networking is
installed before the Dial-up Adapter, a corrupt
Dial-up Adapter installation can sometimes arise.
Use the following steps to correctly configure
the Windows 95 communication functions.
--------------------------------------------------
N.B. If your computer is connected to any other
internal or external networks please consult your
system administrator before proceeding.
--------------------------------------------------
Step 1:
Please ensure that your modem is installed and
configured within Control Panel and that you
have your Windows 95 set-up disks or CD-Rom
for this proceedure.
Step 2:
The Dial-up Adapter must be installed. Click on
Start-Settings-Control Panel. Double-click Network.
If Dial-up Adapter is visible in the window, click it
once, then click Remove. If Dial-up adapter is not
visible proceed to step 3.
Step 3:
Click Add. Select Adapter and click Add. From the list
of Manufacturers select: Microsoft and under Network
Adapters: select Dial-up Adapter. Click OK.
Step 4:
Click Add. Select Protocol and click Add. From the list of
Manufacturers select Microsoft and from the list of Network
Protocols: select TCP/IP. Click OK.
Step 5:
Highlight the Dial-up Adapter, then click on Properties.
Select the Bindings tab. Ensure that TCP/IP is ticked.
If not, enable it by clicking the check box. If there
are any other entries in this window with ticks against
them, disable them by clicking the check box to remove
the tick. Only TCP/IP should have a tick against it.
Click OK.
Step 6:
Select the Identification tab. Ensure the word 'Default'
is within the entry for Computer name, and the word
'WORKGROUP' is within the entry for Workgroup. Click OK.
You may be prompted for your Windows 95 disks or CD-Rom.
Select Yes to restart the computer.
Step 7:
If Windows 95 prompts for a User Name and Password during
the reboot process; Enter the word 'global' in the entry
for User Name but leave the Password entry EMPTY. Click OK.
Again, leave both entries for confirmation of Password
EMPTY. Click OK.
If no prompts appear proceed to step 8.
(The above step will ensure you are
not prompted for a password in future.)
Step 8:
Once the computer has rebooted, Dial-up Networking
must be installed. Click on Start-Settings-Control Panel.
Double-click Add/Remove Programs. Click on the Windows
Setup tab. Select Communication and click Details.
Step 9:
If Dial-up Networking is not ticked, tick it and click OK.
Click OK again to install it. If required, Click OK on the
pop-up box and select Yes to restart the computer.
Step 10:
Now you are ready to install and run Global Internet's
SurfWare for Windows 95 by replacing the Global Internet
SurfWare CD-Rom into your drive and allowing it to autoplay.

II. Advanced Settings for Windows 3.1
The Advanced button on the Windows 3.1 Registration button
allows you to configure your modem. Our default settings for
COM port, baud rate, initialisation string, and dial string
should be adjusted to your modems requirements. Please see
your modem's manual for the proper settings.
